You can check that here too: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp I think as of now MSN is concentrating on IE8.
Good Lord lets hope not. I would rather gently caress my manhood with a running chainsaw before I had to be stuck on a Mac again. I'd detonate a firework up my left nostril rather than use FreeBSD. I could live with Linux+Wine if I had too...
Great news, but I am pretty sure it is a very different story in the USA. Around 70% of my visitors are with some version of IE (predominately with IE 6), mostly USA traffic, although that's not my aimed traffic...however, I am forced to optimize sites mainly for IE since so many people are using it...
That is sad considering Microsoft puts IE built into their OS's when you buy their computer. FF is not built in, you have to download it.
Whoo, whoo, but is that because more people are switching to FF or is it because more IE7 users are upgrading to IE8?
More are switching to FF, Microsoft doesn't really have a big slice of the action on the web does it, this is bad for long-term growth for any major company. Someone pointed out the statistics earlier: Firefox Growth The rate there growing (almost 1% in 1 month which is a huge amount of people) IE will be left in the dirt!
There was an article about that somewhere a couple weeks ago. Apparently users are switching to FF rather than upgrading to IE8. A much smarter move considering how far behind the times IE8 is in modern standards and practices.
Just goes to show that people will use anything just because other people are using it... Like common, do you really think that even 50% of those new FF users will notice a difference from using IE7 (IE8 goes even way better...).
Like common? What does that mean? Not if the developer of the site they visit does his job properly, but Firefox has so much more going for it in terms of customization that, yes, they probably do notice. Way better in what way? Technically, it's the worst browser on the planet. 11 years behind all other browsers in modern standards and practices. Things web developers have to hack just to get IE to perform correctly. Those same things don't need any prodding on any other browser. In addition, IE8 does not handle current methods available on FF, Opera, Safari, Konqueror, K-meleon, etc.
IE 6, however, still has 11 percent marketshare, which means that all users of Microsoft's browser across all versions still outnumber the total number of Firefox users. You can hate it but IE8 is much better browser than previously IE versions and i expect that more people will gonna to use it. It is very fast, stable and i have not faced any problem during browsing Net.
Technically it is inferior by 11 years, as I've said. The only reason the average person doesn't notice is due to the grief and pain web developers lay down to hack modern code to work in IE. In addition, while some are upgrading to IE8 from IE7, it has been shown elsewhere that more are switching to other browsers instead of IE8. Overall, IE8 is losing marketshare to other browsers. In fact, IE has been losing market share almost every month for the past 4 years.
