I hope this is the right category to post this in but i can't find a better one. I am having this issue with Firefox not redirecting error pages for mustangtraderonline.com on my 3 computers at home. I have set up the 404.shtml file the same as i have done for my other websites and the redirects work fine for them but not for my mustang classifieds site. The redirect DOES work fine in IE7 and Opera. I tried contacting Hostgator and they have been trying to help me with this but with no luck. THe strange thing is that it happen on Firefox only and the same thing happens on all 3 computers and 1 is running Vista and the other 2 XP.. I can't image it being the 404 file but i'll post it here just in case. I'd appreciate any help. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 404.shtml +++++++++++++++++++++ <!--#echo var="REDIRECT_STATUS" --> <html> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="2;URL=http://www.mustangtraderonline.com"> <title>Used Mustangs for Sale | Mustangs for Sale | Sell My Mustang | Classic Mustangs for Sale | Mustang Gt's | Mustang Cobras | Mustang Fastbacks</title> <meta name="resource-type" content="document"> <meta name="description" content="Mustangs for sale! Works fine in FF. btw, you don't need all that stuff on your 404 page. <html> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="2;URL=http://www.mustangtraderonline.com"> <title>404 Page</title> </head> <body> <p>404 message</p> </body> </html> Code (markup):
that is bizarre because it still doesn't work on any of my 3 computers.. and what exactly IS needed on a 404.shtml page??
What are you seeing? :/ Have you tried clearing your cache? What version of FF are you using? Does it work with other browsers? As for 404.shtml pages you can have what I've given above which is kind of the barest minimum or you can do what these people have done and create a custom 404 page. It's entirely up to you. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2007/08/17/404-error-pages-reloaded/ http://dzineblog.com/2009/11/50-cool-examples-of-custom-error-404-pages.html
wow - just for the heck of it, i tried it again today and it works fine.. yes i cleared the cache the other day - i rebooted all computers, and still the problem existed.. but today it's fine.. thanks..
