I much prefer firefox to IE, but sometimes firefox is annoying. For some reason I've noticed that if you I the search function firefox won't search inside text boxes on a page. IE will. Every once in a while I'll close firefox and it won't close all the way so I get that "profile is in use" message and have to end the task. Anyone else have any little hang ups that they notice with firefox? I probably use firefox about 80%, but for a couple of things I still use IE.
I used to have a problem with firefox before 1.5 where it would start running super slow after I had a bunch of tabs and windows open. (I am talking like maybe 10 windows with 30-40 tabs each). It would take forever for a new window to open up. My only issues I have now have to do with some plugins which force me to go to ie for some things.
lol, I hate it when that happens! It ALWAYS happens to me, and I don't know why, but it does make me angry, because some of the links I bookmark are really important. I'll try Opera.
Well I haven't had any bookmark issues with Firefox, but I do work from different computers a lot, so I use Sitejot for my bookmarks. It's pretty sweet & it's free. Made by a DP member even. Once I upgraded to the latest version of firefox I haven't had any problems.
I have Firefox and Opera here and I used to have an old version of Netscape (for worst case scenario views of web pages) - I only use them for checking web pages in progress. I find them all to be slow and clunky for general use. For everything else, it's IE6.
the only problem ive found with FF is that its a resource hog and kill your memory usage if you have have a few tabs open. and seems a lot slower to load up compared to IE
I have also found FF to be a bit of a resource hog and several versions have had memory leaks that will lock me up after awhile. I do still prefer it to IE, but, I wish they would work on fixing some of the backend stuff before moving on to add cool new features.
I have seen that on a system at the office, it was a windows 2000 system and they were using FAT. I switched it to NTFS and it went away, I also posted a how to fix it to the mozilla bug db, but then never seem to impliment it as they seem to think the bug is non existant for some reason. The problem is they delete the old bookmarks before fully commiting the new one to the FS.
i got that too, that's so annoying.. but with IE i get like 5 popups everytime i open a page that won't show up in Firefox.. stupid spyware... and at the about:config screen you can change so much options that makes browsing faster that canot be done with IE.
1. use a firewall - you should be doing that anyway - most have pop[up blockers 2. upgrade IE - it has a built-in popup blocker now There are several ways to make browsing with IE faster too. I'll agree that MS doesn't always make those things easy to find for novices...
1: i have i'm not stupid 2: i also have like 2 popup blockers. one of norton and one of google okay that could be so, but WHERE can i find them then???
If you have 2 popup blockers, why are you still getting popups? For altering settings in IE, there are several options for those who don't want to modify the registry or security settings and other setting in the browser itself: TweakUI FreshUI Decrease browser cache (IE temp files) to a maximum of 50 MB http://www.dougknox.com/ http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/default.asp http://www.speedguide.net/ http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#connection_change http://www.annoyances.org/
The only thing I dislike about Firefox is that it's a real PITA to update to newer versions. It never seems to go smoothly.
Firefox 1.5 has an improved update system. Keep in mind 1.5 is still being tested, but I read that the update system works in 1.5 RC 2. It's tough to find a summary of the new update system, but here's the best I could find. http://wiki.mozilla.org/Software_Update "Support for binary patching or full upgrade"
i've got some adware that does that. That adware only targets IE, so i don't use it anymore (i've tried to delete it with so much programs, but it won't go away)
