If you can do it on Explorer but not Firefox theres a chance you could clear it up by removing Firefox *entirely* and doing a fresh install from a clean download. Just a guess, but if it works it's a pretty easy fix and if it doesn't you won't have lost much time. Might be some add-on is wreaking havoc... wouldnt be the first time.
Could be you have a virus that was directed at or brought in by FF. There just arent that many scenarios where MSIE works and FF doesnt. It cant really be system settings (some service thats down) if one of them works. That pretty much leaves corrupted files, a virus, or a bad sector on the hard drive. Incidentally, if your FF settings were still intact when you reinstalled, you didnt fully erase it. Thats pertinent to know. This seems like a pretty elementary question and forgive me if you've already tried, but have you done a system rollback where you restore to a prior date? If what you have is a virus it probably wont help, but I've seen things I thought were viruses get fixed by system restore, so it's worth a shot. Might also run "disk check" and make sure you dont have bad sectors on the hard drive. If neither works, better use MSIE to get to more virus software.
I had the same exact problem with FireFox. I think it updated recently and the update completely messed it up for me. I ended up getting rid of it and switching to Opera. Reinstalling the newest version of FireFox should get it to work though. It finally ended up working for me after a day or so
what are softwares i could get?? i tried downloading avcg free and something else but it wont connect... asks me if i want to connect to a proxy network..
