FireFox 3 seems to be very secure and constantly updated - that's good in terms of security. FireFox also now scans downloaded applications etc for viruses now before successfully completing the download/placing it on your PC. Opera - as I previously have said - has always been the fastest browser in terms of speed. However, also as previously said, FireFox 3 was faster at rendering pages for me on my laptop when I timed with a stopwatch. Watch for a revision of my original [first] post within this thread for a full speculation.
I switched from FireFox to Safari, I was infected with the Trojan vundo and it affected IE, FF, and Opera, thanks to wiki I found out it didn’t affected Safari, I downloaded Safari and never turned back, quickly uninstalled my FF copy.
After installing both Firefox and Opera latest browsers, my pc keeps crashing. Anybody wish to share same experience and solution? Thanks.
Where did you downloaded these softwares ? I have installed, IE 8, FF3, Opera 9.5, Safari 3 & find no crashing problem!
I like the Firefox 3 because it scans viruses on the download files or applications first successfully completing the download/placing it on your PC.
After the release of FF3 and getting disappointed with "not up to what it claimed" performance, I think it's now worth to try out Opera. I read quite some good positive review from Opera users.
My antivirus does that...(Avast) I like Opera better, though I disliked Opera 9.5's floating New Tab Button and new theme, but it only takes 2 minutes to customize it to how I want. Firefox just doesn't offer that kind of customization without addons.
Being an avid user of Opera, I'd highly recommend it to anyone. However, for some reason, Firefox feels more "comfortable", I don't know why! I would still recommend Opera to someone that asks for what's best; just because it's safer, faster, and everything is just better except for the "comfort zone" like someone in the first thread mentioned!
You say "safer", but is this true? I'm not so sure...I think the two are about even in safety. FireFox is open source, letting everyone and anyone view the source code and see vulnerabilities and exploits. Because of this, it makes it both easy to attack but lightning-fast responses from people/coders to update. Extensions too can make FireFox users vulnerable..but still, there's a faster response and update-time than Opera. Opera is freeware, and it takes longer for patches to be released than FireFox. Both have their pros and cons in safety, but I believe both to be pretty even.
Opera has great customization options and speed. Firefox: great plugins. IE has long ways to go. But I use all of them, to test sites and what not. If I had to pick one, I'd pick Opera.
You are right, both Firefox 3 & Opera 9.5 have no security holes found yet. http://secunia.com/product/19089 http://secunia.com/product/10615 Therefore any statement made by anyone that says Firefox 3 or Opera 9.5 is more secure than the other one is now total pure fantasy, as it is proven that both browsers are utterly secure from all security holes. However, the opera report mentions: "9.x" which means that all the 9.1, 9.2, 9.5 and all the other small builds are all considered secure! Unlike Firefox 2, which still has security holes to fix. http://secunia.com/product/12434/ In terms of security, Firefox 3 and the Opera 9.x series are the best right now as they do not have security holes, yet. According to stats, Internet Explorer 7 has 10 unpatched security holes, and the risk of infection is rated: "Moderately critical" http://secunia.com/product/12366 Safari 3.x has 2 unpatched security holes, and the risk of infection is rated: "Less critical" http://secunia.com/product/17989 Konqueror 3.x has 2 unpatched security holes, and the risk of infection is rated: "Moderately critical" http://secunia.com/product/3166
