Hi everyone, I am from Canada and i have find a way to register .fr domain for just 5 euro/year. i am not associated with this compagny i don't even receive money to talk about them but i do beleive i will be appreciated by some dp members. You just have to register the domain like normal then they will be you administrative contact so your .fr domain will be legal. You will need to understand French as there website is only in french. you can see what whois would like with my own domain ( proodi dot fr ) You can buy from lws dot fr Enjoy !
There are many companies that offer this type of service for different TLD's, but I would be careful. For example, in Canada CIRA requires the domain registrant to be a Canadian, but sometimes people use the strategy you described above (ie a proxy owner)... and when CIRA finds out they take the domain away from you. The same thing could potentially happen with your .fr domain strategy...
Good tip ..it's legal canspace (and here's the big problem I see with it), is that it's registered under their name so it legally belongs to them and their an inbetween party letting you use it through them. Technically they own it, so if they wanted to they could claim it as their own and leave you hanging. But for most purposes it seems pointless to do that.
Guy you are all wrong. The domain is on my name, so i am the owner (not show in the whois because of privacy) Afnic control .fr domain and the rules is clear as long you have someone that leave in france and can receive any document relative to justice the .fr domain will stay yours. You can read afnic rules here : http://www.afnic.fr/data/chartes/charte-fr-2010-01-01.pdf in french !!
To test your theory I have reported you to AFNIC as a potential violator of their geographic requirement.
Just teasing. My point is, you have to be ready to consider that as your profile increases, so does your risk.
