Nice enough 1. The home page is ok, I guess thats whats in now. 2. I don't like following nav bars. Category bar, even worse. 3. Footer is a mess. 4. Guess your still fixing the title tag.
Thanks @Lex350 Yeah I haven't thought about the title tag yet, footer I haven't worked with too much yet, just looking for opinions on the overall feel of the site I had never designed in that style before, but it's what's "in" at the moment, so thought I'd give it a try.
I'm not sure I like the home page being dedicated to ... nothing ... except on my second visit I thought I'd check to see if there was a footer under the large image and discovered some seriously cool graphics. You need to give the user a bit more of a hint that scrolling down is a good idea! Your about page took too long to load, I thought the page wasn't done yet, looked over to see what my dog was doing and when I looked back some content popped up. If I'd been in a normal office environment I'd have decided you weren't ready for business yet and gone onto the next design company I was checking out. I get that you wanted to do the text as an image so you could have the hands and you just don't get that control with html but the file is way, way too big. You are, no doubt allowing for responsive design and want to let the image be the right size for the screen but I'd suggest you start out too big. No image should be 3.2MB these days! I had a wee play with your image in gimp. You can see your file at the top, then a test I did at the same size but with a transparent background. I don't know if it is gimp or the transparency but the file size increases. I then changed the mode from rgb to indexed and the file shrinks. The last two were after I scaled the image to 700px wide (how the image was displayed on my monitor according to chrome's inspect tool). The image is now 209kb which is still pretty big. Chuck on the indexing and we're down to a respectable 51kb. As your site is still under development you may already have this on your todo list but I thought it was worth pointing out.
@sarahk Whoa! thanks for the thorough feedback!! That's awesome Yep, still building the site. Eventually I want to go through and compress all images...get rid of any that are slowing down the site. Didn't know the about page was that slow, so glad you pointed that out. I'll look into adding a call to action to scroll down above the fold thanks again!
