What is the key to a successful blog?

I find myself wanting to go for it for hours one day with loads of ideas, but then I might not touch it for a week, and then just start another one because I’m bored of the subject!

How do you stay focused to produce a decent sized and informative blog!?

blogging about something that you're actually interested in and/or enjoy is usually a good way to stay focused.

I keep a note book with all my content.. It's not easy... also if you want to write a lot at one time.. go ahead but split the writing into 3 or 4 postings and you'll be happy and have a full blog

I think it is the same for the vast majority of bloggers. The very popular bloggers you read about have managed to create a business. Often they are salaried (so it is their job), they may have been first movers, maybe part of a large network that generates a decent amount of revenue. Don't expect to make much money, so don't kill yourself. Just do it as you feel the urge. otherwise you will end up frustrated, for no real reason. We already have enough stress in our lives. Have you looked at the price of gas lately? :)

For some people the drive just isn't there, ive known a number of people who lost interest in something before they really get going properly.

Its good if you can endure the boring times, the times when you see no change too and when visitors or revenue wont increase, if you can push past those then the success often comes.

Long term all the time i prefer.

How do i stay focused? i dont know, somehow ive always been able to sit doing repetitive tasks and just keep on pushing.

If you are getting bored fast typing and writing contents, you shouldn't have started a blog in the first place. You should hire some writers or buy some contents if you really want to maintain your blog.

Sometimes, it is just procrastination that stop us from doing things and being productive. Bored sometimes, for me, is just an excuse for laziness.

What I do is make a bit of time every day to write my blogs. I do not go over that time and always make sure I make the time every day. If I have more to write I simply leave it for the next day's session.

If you try and do too much you will burnout just like you have done.

Well that was helpful. Someone is trying to boost their post count... [IMG]

Write your ideas down ! I can't tell you how many times I have had a killer idea, and forgot some of the details when it came time to executing it.

Every blogger from time to time will go through a phrase of not knowing what to write or just cant be bothered to write on a particular day.

One thing i do is on the days when i can come up with 4 or 5 posts i save 2 or 3 as drafts and then on a day i dont feel upto writing or my mind is blank then i post one of the drafts i saved earlier.

I currently have 19 posts saved as drafts.

There is sound advice in this thread.

Some of the best advice is that on days that you do feel motivated and cannot seem to stop writing, save some posts for the days you won't feel so motivated... because those days will come.

Other tricks on coming up with something to write about on slow days are:

-Type your keyword or niche subject into Google News and search for recent news stories related to what you write about. Recap the news event and then comment on what you think about it. Don't just recap the event as your readers can find "news" any where.

-Go to an online forum that is related to your niche (like, say... DP?) and find where someone has asked a question requesting information. This is a direct look at what people are wanting to know. You don't have to respond to that question in a post, but write a post centered around answering that question for your readers.

    Good luck!
