The first step in creating any new website is finding the right niche, without the right niche and target audience your website will ultimately fail. There are millions of pages created on the internet every day, with so much competition one must specialize in order to generate more traffic. First, let me define niche in online terms

Niche - a specialized website that provides specific information catering to a specific target audience, a much more precise and accurate information that is presentable to the people searching for it.

The key is to be extremely precise, be a laser and not a flashlight, get clear-cut information that interests the people searching for that information.

Finding the right niche for generating online revenue can be difficult, you as the website creator must put your mind in the buyer mode. Have you ever purchased anything online, searched for specific information, sought out product reviews? This might be a good time to check out your history, learn from what you were doing and mimic that when creating the website. People have commented on my excellent ability to find a niche with little to none competition, I have created websites on spear hunting, paludariums, and dire wolves. I bet most of you donâ€™t even know what a paludarium is, that is why the niche is so good it is a very small micro niche and still produces frequent results via search engines.

There are many different ways to produce niche websites, brainstorming, simply writing about something you are passionate about, or my way which I have coined â€˜niche modeâ€™. Brainstorming usually involves sitting down somewhere, taking a pen and paper and just starting to list every topic you can come up with. After that you come up with as many sub-topics as you can, continually making the list bigger and bigger until you have a huge list of potential topics. This is defiantly a good way to come up with a niche; itâ€™s just not the one that works for me.

Starting with something you are passionate about can also be a good path due to the fact that you donâ€™t have to do any research and writing about the topic will be enjoyable rather than a chore. This is a good way to start your first website, but generally isnâ€™t the best due to the fact that most peopleâ€™s compassions are heavily competitive niches. This is also kind of the lazy way out of doing any research, which is why I would say itâ€™s a good place to start for beginners.

My way of finding the right niche, which I have coined â€˜niche modeâ€™ is the way that best works for me. It might not be so successful for everyone but I have that it has worked multiple times with little effort upon my part. The first thing that you must remember when finding the right niche is that you must try multiple times. You are not going to get that golden idea on your first light bulb pop, you must try till you find the right niche and it will most likely take multiple times. The hardest part is doing the research; I will get into this later. My â€˜niche modeâ€™ involves a lot of trial and error; I must test all of my ideas until I get one that is worth developing.

â€˜Niche modeâ€™ is almost like a way of thinking, it can even be described as a lifestyle, although that is a bit eccentric. It is basically putting your mind in the style of questioning everything in the possibility that it will work for creating a website. Whenever you are having a conversation with someone, watching television, or reading a book just keep a little bit of your brain allocated to the â€˜niche modeâ€™. This means that you must be on the lookout for potential ideas and topics for possibly creating a website about. It doesnâ€™t matter if you donâ€™t know anything about the website, you research on the topic. The good part is just getting into the niche mode and staying there, till you are churning out good micro niche websites.

The â€˜niche modeâ€™ method works for me because I am an extremely curious person, I can recall one of my friends who I would always ask a bunch of questions, these questions would almost never end and it bugged him to no end. I had to train myself not to ask so many questions around him, the thing is Iâ€™m a naturally curious person by nature. I question everything around me in an effort to explain everything, itâ€™s why I think I would make a good scientist. Maybe my method of discovering nicheâ€™s wonâ€™t work for everybody, but it will probably give you guys some ideas.

good article

i've personally reversed the flow for myself. i go where all the money is being made in bigger niches because I use cpa networks for traffic and well.. small niches don't make money there. For ppc and seo this is a good article

another few ways to pick your niche is to search out magazines,
bestsellers of books on amazon, ebay pulse, google hottrends just
to name a few.

Finding niches involves massive amounts of research into keywords, advertising$, ppc rates and analyzing the traffic potential first. If the niche has no searches or poor $ppc then for me it's not worth going after (unless there's a great affiliate system in mind) . If something comes up after this research then I analyze the top 100 keywords for competition and find out what is involved in getting top ranking... how many links, type of content, etc.

Save time by going after the niches with high earning potential, nice traffic, and little competition. You can't find this out just by brainstorming on your own.
