Finding the Potential

    Hi All,
I am very new to Affiliate Marketing; however I have been ASP.NET/ASP programmer and web/graphics designer for 7 years.
I have a great amount of data that I have collected for an online guide for waterfalls of my local state. I want to be able to have pages providing related product (waterfalls guide books, gear to get there with i.e.: outdoor gear, indoor waterfalls -decorative, garden waterfalls) while providing a free light-weight guide to hiking, driving and camping near these waterfalls.

    My questions are:
    1. Would it be a long shot to expect any substantial income from this on-the-side affiliate vision in this particular case?
    2. If not what kind of income can I expect from this kind of endeavor?
    3. How would one best approach this?

    Thanks,
    Nathan

    Hi Nathan,

If you have that much data collected on waterfalls then it sounds like you have the 1st most important ingredient for success! Interest, knowledge and sounde like maybe even some passion for the topic. This willl take you a LONG way especially in the early days before any income starts to kick in.

Sounds like a good plan and products mix. May I suggest BentGear, the highest commission in outdoor gear for your hiking and outdoor products. Here is a review of their programsince they are one of my clients. http://www.5staraffiliateprograms.com/outdoor-gear.html

The most important aspect to making money with your great idea is to know how to generate traffic and lots of it, then to be sure the programs you partner with have good conversions.

Sounds like you have the programming and design experience. Do you know SEO?

    Hi Nathan,
Listen to Linda from 5starAffiliates, depends on traffic and conversion.

    3. How would one best approach this?
    • Do you have competition - see what they are doing
    • Find keywords, traffic look at Shawns KWD suggestion tool
    • Build a lot of pages with KWDs and interesting useful stuff (the hard part)
    • Add related affiliate programs
    • Build links to your pages
