Finding Niches and Keywords

This is the most important part of blogging for profit, but I can't get it right. There is loads of information on this, but none of it has helped in the least bit. I can't find any keywords or niches to target that will profit at all, either due to lack of CPC or too powerful competition.

I try the "groups of people">"things they research">"keywords" idea but I can hardly think of any, much less ones without tough competition. I need help finding good keywords/niches.

    Thanks for any help.

finding good KW's is tough. I generally recommend lookig for a term that is popular, then trying to find out where geographically people are looking for it. add the location tot the query and see whether thats being searched.

I've managed to pick up a few domaind with decent search volumes and relatively low competition recently this way. One term even gets over 100K searches/month.

    Thanks for the information.

Where did you add in the location to the search? And how do you find what term is "popular", but with weak/low competition? It would also help to know how much CPC is a decent amount for such keywords, as most I have found with little competition have less then $1.

without going into too much detail, the key factor is really the base query.

somethign like "Mortgage Refinancing" is going to have a higher cpc than "paper towels". As far as narowing down the competition goes, adding a location often helps with this. for example, "New Mexico mortgage Refinance" will have less competition that "Mortgage Refinance". Generally the cpc will remain similar, but the competition will drop, of course the search volume will also drop most times.

After that it's really a numbers game. try different combinations and use G's KW tool to see what similar queries are getting searches then see what the competition is like.

That is really helpful! Thank you very much! I will most certainly try that! I see what you mean now by adding a location. Pretty genius.
