Finding low traffic search terms

I have a site in a very competitive niche, and SEO for most keywords would involve a huge amount of time and effort. With this in mind, my plan to get some search engine traffic is to find low-search keywords that I can easily rank for.
I know there are tools that will help you find high traffic keywords, but are there any that will help you find low traffic search terms?

To research good (low competition, fairly ofter searched) keywords, you need to use some keywords research tool.
Then, if keyword is long tail (have at least 2-3 words) and its searched fairly many times a month, you check how big is competition for that phrase in Google. If its low - Tadaaam :)
