I am constantly asked how to successfully find decent long tail keywords without using any software, like Long Tail Pro. I use a pretty simple method that has worked well. I am sure some people already use a similar method, while others prefer software - this is a good way to learn when just starting out - as some software is so feature-rich you almost need a degree in computer programming to figure out how to use them. Anyway here we go, I would love to hear your suggestions... ------------ Type a parent (seed) keyword into Google - say "Coffee Mug". Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and you will see this: Searches related to coffee mug unique coffee mug travel coffee mug ceramic coffee mug funny coffee mug starbucks coffee mug custom coffee mug personalized coffee mug coffee mug descendents As you can see, the keywords are beginning to get longer. Go ahead and pick any of these terms and search for it again in Google - again scrolling to the bottom. I chose 'personalized coffee mug' Searches related to personalized coffee mug personalized coffee thermos personalized travel coffee mug personalized coffee mug with name personalized gifts personalized photo coffee mug personalized insulated coffee mug personalized coffee mug diy personalized glass coffee mug Every time you repeat this method, the keywords get longer and longer. Let's do it again.... Once you have a decent list of longtail keywords - run them through the Adwords keyword planner and begin doing your search/competition research.
because we are late to the game and they've already been taken. So one word domains - really hard to rank two word phrase domains - hardest three word domains - hard four word domains - not so hard five word domains- easier (but why would you?) etc
I think it's neat how you were able to find those long tail keywords by using Google. I will use that in my suite of finding keywords. Another way, and it is software, is Traffic Travis. There is a free version where you can put in key words and it will search for all keywords. Especially long tail. It will even show you how much competition there is to ranking with the keyword. There is a free version online for newbies to start with. Will even disclose some SEO stuff too. Just sharing. Leilani
I always worry about those tools - do they have another tool that analyses the research being done and acting on the results?
I understand your skepticism. But for the lack of a newbie having any way of finding keywords, this is just an alternative. I know it helped me to get articles written for my blog. Leilani PS. To Salman Najeeb, my intent was to share another way of finding long tail keywords because they are important when one cannot rank with shorter keywords.
I have found the best tool for this is my eyes. It takes some time to check each one, but the longer you do it - the faster you get.
No, I was meaning the guys that make a tool have all their users looking for keywords and then they get to analyse what the users searched for and pick out the gold. There were claims a few years ago that a domaining tool was doing just that because people would find a great dropped domain, do their research but by the time they got back to buy the domain would be gone. Harder to prove with keywords but a great way to get other people to do your research.
