Ok so if I find a blog that has good PR on inner pages, but it has hundreds of pages, is there a tool I can use to discover which post has the best PR or is it a case of doing it manually?
Scrapebox! You can harvest most every inner page in a matter of minutes and then run them through a mass PR check. http://www.scrapebox.com/cheapskate
I've never used a Mac, but I've used Ubuntu Linux. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to run it in Parallels. Or even better, a Windows virtual machine. I used to run it via a VM in ubuntu. You can also rent a VPS if you can afford the small monthly cost. The Tier 6 plan @ http://www.websiteserviceplus.com is sufficient enough.
I'll say ahead of time, unless your site is viewed as very authoritative by Google, this may be a waste of time. Even among decent websites, there are usually only a small handful of pages that have pageranks that are not 0 or N/A. Plus, it's best to not think too hard about PageRank. If you're going to put time into analyzing your site, it's best to look instead at things like: (1) what are the main landing pages of search traffic to your site (2) which pages are deeplinked to from external sites, especially links that are editorially chosen rather than ones you self-published? (3) how are your pages ranking in various searches. Thinking too hard about PageRank is just a waste of time. You can think at length about points 1,2 and 3 and you'll find it much more fruitful and will deliver much more tangible results.
Unfortunately I never used this type of tool ever. But if if is available, then share here. I need many time while exploring directories
