You are crazy :D but sometimes having PR3 can rank better than PR5, that's why it is said that PR means nothing :)

    No mate
    I beg to differ
I had a site which ranked on 1st position with PR0 for almost a month before the last PR update for its keyword and the keyword is only a two word phrase and the competition is 2,400,000, of course it had a direct PR3 once the pr was updated
    Its possible
But it generally happens that when you build backlinks, it takes atleast a month or two for the serps to show up and then rank you so high
By that time the next pr update arrives and there you have a PR

Did everyone fail to see the purpose of this posting? A website with a lower PR CAN get ahead of a website with a higher PR. This is often because of the way their website is optimized and the keywords in their domain. You cannot, however, get ahead of a high PR website that is competing with you for a highly competitive keyword such as "dogs" with no PR. Even if you had the domain name Dogs.com you couldn't rank #1 over high PR website if you don't have PR. This is because A LOT of people are competiting for that keyword. What everyone else is saying makes no sense.

Let's look at your example. The site that ranks first in google for the term 'dogs' is www dot nextdaypets dot com, which has 91,200 backlinks in Yahoo. There is no way you can compete with that unless you get close to that number of backlinks. It's impossible to get so many backlinks without getting PR as PR is based on the number and quality of the backlinks to a site. A site with PR0 will have too few backlinks to compete against a site 91,000 backlinks. This doesn't prove that PR is important but that you need so much backlinks to compete that you're bound to have a good PR by the time you can.

Also, most webmasters will target less competitive keywords before going after the big ones, which again means they'll have backlinks by the time they target a term like 'dogs'. This also means that they'll have PR from the backlinks required to rank well in the SERPs for the less competitive keywords.

PR means something, but it is not the only factor in determining where one ranks. Check out what Google itself says:

    URL: http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html

SEO is about onpage and offpage optimization. For a very competitive keyword, one will not rank high unless both are optimized.

Nice work. Overture shows "seo India" getting 40 searches daily on the internet, and "seo specialist" getting 43 searches a day. That represents searches all over the internet, of course, not directly to your PR0 page only.

The problem is that you admit that you only rank on pages 7-8 for these keywords. That effectively translates into close to zero clicks on the search results for your page 7-8 listings.

Which again reaffirms the original poster's so far uncontested challenge — that is, "Find me a 0 PR website that is #1 in Google for a highly competitive keyword (not phrase)." Still waiting... :)

And by the way, mascot, there are plenty of us out here who are far from what you call "seo babies". I have 24 reasonably competitive keywords on Google's first page. Many of us whom you allude to as "seo babies" understand that effective SEO is a large issue, and that PageRank is one of many factors to pay attention to. Don't fall for the mantra on this forum that "PR is useless". Also don't fall for the opposite — an obsession with PR. The balance for a good webmaster lies somewhere in between those two poles.

I'm #1 when typing in "Hip-Hop Electronics" in google. Too bad there aren't 1,000+ other people searching for that term on a daily basis lol :(

Yes, you are right. But do you realize there are 2 kinds of PR? Live PR and toolbar PR? Toolbar PR is updated every 2-4 months, mate! Meanwhile, SERPs can change every day! Don't forget the importance of your anchor text. If you have so many natural links but all of them have anchor text "click here", you will get good PR BUT maybe your competitors will outrank you because they have varieties of keyword anchor texts.

Right. And also the search term tv pc (without quotation marks, please) is not #1. It's not even on Google's first page.

    Still waiting...

well i agree with few members that PR0 can be number 1 with industry competitive keyword(s).
PR only works with google. BACK LINKS work with all search engine. so try to get back links and one way links from other related sites. well i also would like to see others suggestions and comments as i love to learn.

Well on my pc on google.com its number one for the phrase (without quotations as well, i never use em) and considering its 1 of about 46,000,000 search results im not sure what your banging on about. Its also number one for other competative keywords.

Those who say PR has no influence on rankings are onviously noobs. I have always defended that PR does hold a good significance in rankings although its not the only indicator.

I got a PR6 in this update from PR N/A, still doesn't change the fact it gets about 5 visitors per day and ranks nowhere.

Just because Google updated the bar, did it change anything or make it a better site? No.

Well the closest I can come to a PR-0 site ranking for a competitive key word is a PR-0 site ranking for a competitive phrase..
But it out ranks the inventor of the phrase :D
    http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=badjojo+videos&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=

EDIT: I am not saying that PR has nothing to do with SERPS, The fact is I don't know.. I made my first website around a year ago, (25 jan 2007) so you could say that I am a Noob.

but here are some keywords my PR-0 site ranks for... and ironically these ranks have dropped since some of my inner pages started receiving PR this update.
