Finally Got a VPS [Comment on the Deal]

    Hi friends,

    I bought a vps on 8th after much hunting. The specifications :

    
    Space : 5GB [ Was originally 10GB, but I dont need and wanted to cut costs]
    Bandwidth : 100GB [Good enough at start]
    RAM : 256MB Guaranteed, 512MB burstable
    OS : CentOS 4.4 Minimal, Security hardened
    Control Panel : DirectAdmin
    IPs : 10 from 2 different blocks
    Server CPU : Celeron 2.53GHz
    Location : Kansas, USA
    Price : $16/month

    oops! some files not found while running the benchmark...seems a centos minimal install is not enough for it.

    Anyway, I'm quite satisfied with the performance so far.

    It's not expensive ,but do you need to pay extra fee for cpanel?

    DA is installed, cPanel isn't needed.

    The deal isnt bad if you gettin 100GB of bandwith as well 10 IP's
    but how come you manage without CPanel ?

    Why these bulky packages never comes with cPanel... if they do, there is a big price to pay....

    He is using DA becuase of several reasons..
    Da is recommended becuase on vps if you want to run cpanel on vps you need atleast 512 mb ram for good performance!:)

    I understand $10 is hosting and remaining $6 is for DA

    No doubt deal really sounds to good to be true. Hope shellcom.info turns out to be a reliable service provider..

    Is ashagg offering you some kind of offsite backup

    hey neogen! you zeroed in on the vps provider quite easily... :p
    offsite backup is extra.

    Now I need some help to optimize apache and mysql...any server admins here willing to help me for a green rep ?

    Well, hunted for some good tutes and advice and found the perfect settings for apache and mysql and my mem consumption is only 50-100MB now :)
