Hi all... First of all, thanks for the amazing forum. I've been involved in building sites almost exclusively over the past 10 years or so... probably have created around 100 sites for companies of all sizes, started a "shopping cart" software company that has clients all over the U.S., and SOMEHOW I hadn't taken a look at AdSense until this past week (or thought it wasn't worthwhile). I'm thinking that my background with site building, programming, design and some SEO can't hurt, and that AdSense may be a good fit for me. Even witht that, there's a ton that I have to learn about AdSense. Two questions: 1. For someone with my background, what's the best place to start so I "do this right". This forum seems excellent, but I have a habit of studying things quite intensely and I don't want to miss any other valuable resources. 2. Did most of you have some web building background like myself, or was the web a new venture for you? THANKS everyone. Hopefully at some point I will know enough to help those on this forum whom I've already learned from. S
I have only stumbled across Adsense with the last 2 months and decided to go with it as I had a basic website to help me with my job. Thankfully this forum was one of my first SEO bookmarks and I have learnt so much from everyone - my traffic has grown and so has my earnings - it has also made me pull my socks up and keep working on my own site among others. If you already have a background in designing websites then you are off to a head-start already so I think you should try the Adsense route, you have nothing to loose. Good Luck and enjoy the Adsense ride.
You might want to try some of the Adsense related blogs. Inside Adsense AdMoolah JenSense ProBlogger Besting Adwords (mine)
Well, to have success in AdSense. You need to have a good, well-designed site, with useful content and a large visitor base. With some web building background you are more than halfway there. These forums are an excellent resource, but make sure to go the source first - read the AdSense TOS & FAQ and you should be ready to implement them
First of all, I'm so fricken flattered that my site (AdMoolah) is mentioned in the same breath as JenSense and ProBlogger. In my opinion those two resources, along with this forum, are absolute goldmines of information. JenSense always has the best scoops about all the CPC programs, and Darren (from ProBlogger) has great tips for monetizing blogs that apply to general websites as well. However, the best source of information is your own experience. Put AdSense on it, see how it does. Change the color palette, change the positioning of the ads, change the ad layout. Try out other advertising programs like YPN, Chitaka, affilaite programs and anything else that sounds promising. Try building websites in different niches. Try different strategies for getting more traffic. Even if you buy an amazing ebook for $10,000,000 it can't tell you what the best strategy is for you particular websites. You have a huge advantage over most people coming into the AdSense game with 10 years of experience building websites. If you can get good traffic, you can get good money from AdSense and other programs. I'm sure it won't be long until you start sharing some great tips with the rest of us. Welcome to the amazing and wacky world of AdSense.
tlainevool Wow, admoolah is yours? How much you're making? Your website is quite famous, and have a nichè.
I wish it was famous. I'm not making much at all from AdMoolah. Just use AdMoolah to find out what it makes http://www.admoolah.com/earnings-view.php?category=All+Categories&use_url=on&url=admoolah I tried YPN last month, and did terrible with it. Now I'm experimenting with Chitika. We'll see.
It is quite famous - in some circles (ie ours). But it won't earn much money because of the type of people who visit it. Webmasters tend in general not to be click happy people and we get conditioned through working on our own sites not to click on ads.
