Finally! a working business model! crushed by google...

I recently launched my new site, The Skinny Pale Guy's Guide to Seduction(http://skinnypaleguy.com). I bought some inexpensive advertising at around $.01/click. When I did the math, I noticed I was getting around $.02 per visitor. This stayed steady for a few days. Based on this data, I decided to buy more advertising, around $35 (hey that's a lot to me) again at around $.01/click. No sooner had I done so than my average cpc plummetted, meaning I'm losing money now.

Can anyone help me? is there any way to make it profitable again?

    My ctr is good.

who did you buy the ppc from? one of the third-tiers? I like the idea of $.01 clicks.

Try and get free traffic. What ad network were you using to bring in traffic at $.01? I know that some people try adsense arnitrage but find it s not profitable.

How long did you earn a 50% profit on your traffic before you decided to increase it? How do you know that your initial experience was not just luck?

only a few days.. maybe it was just luck. I assumed it wasn't because it corresponded to changes I'd made to the page.

to answer the other questions, you can get really cheap ad space from porn sites. it happens to be good traffic for a site on seduction. heh.

Google can ban you from adsense for getting traffic from such sites unless you are joking.

Really, they'll ban you from where you're traffic comes from? What if someone placed a link there without your knowledge?

Hadn't really thought about that. I supose they won't because you can get links without intending to because natural linking can come from anywhere.

whats wrong with porn traffic? like 90% of the internet is horny guys. why should it matter that they happened to come to me from a porn site? I remember in the tos reading about using traffic generators, but nothing about getting traffic from porn sites.

Yeah, I agree with ChrisTeachesGuitar. I don't believe the origin of traffic is an issue with Google. I know if you link to porn you're account would be in jeopardy.

i agree that you have way too little history to judge from. I also agree 100% that you will not have problems from a porn site linking TO you.
And just from a purely SEO standpoint, you might want to rename your inner pages from (for example) "page_id=x" to a keyword on that particular page.

it IS possible to drag a site down with inbound links, but a couple of banners on a porn site will not do it. It will take a whole lot of other factors as well.

I’ve tested this a number of times and in each case, I have received more money from each click when the traffic is from a similar topic.

If I have a site about light bulbs and receive traffic from another site on light bulbs, the payout is greater than receiving traffic from a site about glow spoons.

I’m not 100% positive, but confident enough that I aim for this.

Perhaps this could have some impact on your site?

I also suspect what Litho said to be true.

Your page title made me laugh. It's creative.

Since google banned me for no valid reason (it's in appeal, we'll see), I'll share some secrets. Why not?

I was using a combination of stumblexchange.com and AdBrite ads to make $50-$80 on my site. Search the text ad marketplace on Adbrite and sort the list by CPC and USA traffic. Using that I was able to bring in .01 clicks, or sometimes .02, mostly from the USA. Then, be sure to add the MFA blacklist to your filters in adsense, so that you get more $ per click.

Before you do all this, email google and tell them that you are running ads to promote your site, so they will see an increase in traffic. I didn't know to do this, which I think is why they flagged me. I went from 3-500 uniques a day to 3-5,000!

So, if $10 in bought adbrite ads at .01/click makes you $20 on adsense, what
will $100 in .01 clicks make you? That's right - $200. And ramp it up from there. You have to spend money to make money. Test each advertiser for 1 day to see how they perform and then if you make an overall profit buy a week of ads, and then find more advertisers.

Let me know if it works for you, and say a prayer google realizes I was an honest publisher!!

    Thanks, and good luck.

Damn, that's good stuff. Feel free to send money in addition to the prayers. ;)

$20 from 1000 visitors, thats an example of how NOT to do arbitrage right there....

Whats your avg CPC before and now? When i first started arbitrage i used adbrite i stopped because i noticed the same thing (this was ages ago). Adbrite traffic is generally not very good quality at all and a lot of fake clicks so smart pricing will happen. You should move onto PPC like 7search and Adcenter.

was $.15 - $.20, now it's under $.10. I would so be making money if it was still $.20
