I have been filtering ads on my travel destination sites but today I found a 200 limit to the number I could filter. Then I read posts on DP with people saying dont filter as you just end up with cheaper ads being shown. I have seen the opposite, if I dont filter naff ads I get low click thru rate and low price per click. The sort of ads I filter are ones from big companies who can afford to pay google huge amounts a month in adwords which I think gives them a cheaper rate for ads. So I filter sites like ebay, lastminute.com, hotel.com, doubleclick, ask, exite, tradedoubler, that sort of thing. I now have a generally good set of ads that relate to my content and are useful to my visitors, but I am concerned that I cant filter any new naff ads that appear. What is everyone else's experiences of filtering?
naff, as in tacky? 200 is a lot of filters for just one industry. just a thought but you do know you just have to put in the domain (thissite dot com) I have read suggestions to clear the filter every now and then and start over to make sure the ads are still showing on your site (domain may have expired, etc.) when I do this many of my blocks are filled with certain ads I can't imagine anyone being interested in anymore so I don't care how much they pay out I filter them.
Cheers for the reply. Naff as in not relevant or just MFA. I am just filtering the domain name. I did think that 200 was quite a few, I may give the clearance a go and start from scratch, well virtually, I have some competitors that I would filter. Cant remember if I am allowed to disclose Click through or cost per click, TOS and all. But I am quite happy with cost per click, could do with boosting ctr but will keep trying.
