Help guys, I have tried for about two hours to come up with a good domain name for a new site of mine. The website I'm currently building is going to be film/movie targetted (similar in some aspects to imdb). Any suggestions for names would be most grateful, thanks.
I would prefer the domain name to end in .com. We are building a database of films and their data, i.e directors, cast and film names, quotes, genre, and lots more info. Users can vote and leave reviews on the films. Therefore its going to be very user friendly so needs a catchy name. The language is going to be English by default but we have built the script to be template based and therefore can be easily modified into other languages
I put a bid at sedo.com for the domain filmlibrary.com for $500 and received the following - "Please respond to the counter-offer! - 250,000 EUR"
That is just to scare you off, he/she probably would do a deal somewhere in between but guys with decent domains often counter with inflated large figures to scare of people who are not prepared to dig deep for a decent domain.
Well I'm prepared to dig deep but it would have to be a very good domain name and I think the one above is not really worth that much
Hello Amynelson, moviesinmind.com is quite nice. Its very difficult to find anything shorter or one which is easier for people to remember. I used godaddies bulk order to put allsorts of film/movie related domain names in and they are all taking. I have also contacted half a dozen webmasters about purchasing a domain name. Thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming
I would have had that one if it was Moviemanual.com rather than Moviesmanual.com, that extra "s" makes it sound funny. Keep them coming, good suggestions so far and if nothing better comes up I will probably get Moviesmanual.
That one is good but our database is going to be complete and therefore contain some crappy films aswell
everyfilm The dotcom is bought but undeveloped and the .net/co.uk are available movieroll.com as in a roll call of all the films
Man I wish I jumped on the domain name bandwagon earlier. Scott, are you suggesting to maybe make on offer for the everyfilm.com domain, if so how much do you think I should offer?
Well the with the dotcom undeveloped you "could" just go with the .net and get it established. I would go after the .com , it would be a very sweet domain and probably worth 4 figures if I was serious about that genre. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.everyfilm.com The owner has had it for a while with a page up there in 2004 and it's reg'd to 2008, Peter Scott. The domain owner Peter also seems to own http://www.americanaccolades.com so I would have a good look around that site and prepare an email, make a point of saying that your not going to be rude and low ball him but ask if the domain would be for sale, try and offer an incentive to team up with his main site and see if he would get back to you with a rough asking price, ie high $xxx.
