I am not sure if this is the right place for this or not, but I am looking for some advice.

I have two 125x125 ad spots on my site, I am still developing the site and would like to eventually sell the ad spots.

What should I do in the meantime, should I do some sort of placeholder that says the spots are for sale?

    Hi,

Most people that I have seen then do do a greyed out box that says "Advertise Here", that then clicks through to some sort of contact form or contact details. I'd say that was your best bet.

Sweet Jesus, don't run ads that aren't affiliate offers on that website! When you view the page your eyes naturally drift from the top left to the bottom right -- it's called the Gutenberg Diagram. If you place legit third-party advertisements there your conversion rates will suffer. What you should do is find affiliate offers that have 125px by 125px creatives, and the link them to landing page you've created to sell that product. For instance, you're doing the smoking niche thing, yes? Then promote electronic cigarette offers. CX Digital is offering $28 a lead, brah, go after that.

I know what you're trying to do, and I've made a lot of bone-headed mistakes before getting into the position I'm in today. By placing affiliate offers in those slots you're covering your bases, and you don't have to register a new domain for the e-cig landing page, but it will improve your conversion rates if you do.
