Is there any easier way to fill categories in a new directory, using PHPLD, other than writing them one by one manually? I have a lot of categories to put in, but it's taking me too much time...

Welcome to the club, check out the category World at IWD and feel my pain...

And the way to add sites faster is to use AJAX when you choose categories instead of the dropping menu :p

Good luck.. DMOZ is a good example of that kind of work, and it wasn't made in a day nor a year i guess...

There's a MOD available for the PHP Link Directory that lets you add multiple categories at a time. A HUGE timesaver. Hopefully you already have PHPLD v 3.1!?

First I used this script to input my categories, but finally I removed it and input manually one by one, it just took me one day to finish it. The reason is that there is no standard category structure will meet your requirements, so you'd better input one by one yourself.
