Do I understand this properly: you have to wait 25 minutes. But if you are a bit too late (and the link expired), you have to wait another 25 minutes?? As far as I know, no other file host works like this. At other file hosts you have to wait 15', 30' (or even more) between downloads, but if the link expired because you were just drinking some coffee, you only have to wait 30 sec, 60 sec (or something similar).

The difference is competing hosts reset their timers after your wait time has expired. With FileSonic, the timer is only reset once per 24 hrs. In the short term this would seem to compel more premium sales and as a PPS affiliate I should welcome the change in FSn's opinion. I think, however, this change is likely to backfire in the long term if it remains tied to a 24 hr reset. You can go too far in making free downloads inconvenient. There is a point where a bad reputation among free downloaders discourages them from considering premium membership in the future. You're not going to get them hooked on FileSonic if you make the barriers too high.

I am guessing FSn has implemented this not only to encourage premium sales but to reduce server load in an attempt to reduce the stability problems still effecting the network. If not now, hopefully, they can at least modify the 24 hr reset in the future once they get a better handle on the stability problems.

BTW: This change would also be another reason PPD affiliates are reporting decreased downloads.

So files are not kept 30 days after last download but only 30 days after upload ?? that sucks if it's the case.

I think you get 65% but not sure.

FileSonic only promises to store files for 30 days after uploading for free users, not 30 days from the last download. Unofficially, FSn reps have said allowances may be made to keep files longer if they are popular, but my advice is to upgrade to premium if you want to protect your files beyond the 30 days. Pruning files older than 30 days is done by script and although I do not doubt the good intentions of the FSn staff when they say files may be kept longer, I would not trust the fate of my files to a pruning script that is set for 30 days.

Well since filesonic changed their rules recently for dl counter like the other hostfile they should also keep files 30 days after last download like other hostfile.
This rule need to be changed 30 days after upload is really nothing.

Guys, the 25 minute timer is not permanent. We're running some tests with various levels to find the best level for us and our affiliates.

You probably didn't pay with your own Paypal account (i.e. same email address). If you need it changed manually, message me.

The reset is just a marketing gimmick :)

Take host A who has a 30 minute wait time for the second download, with a 1 hr reset (this is an actual example). You can only download 2 times per hour, i.e 48 times per day.

With FileSonic at 25 minute (which is not guaranteed to stay, btw), you can download 60/25 * 25 = 58 times per day.

    58 > 48. So, the reset doesn't actually make a difference.

10 mins was fine mate - perfect balance. There's so much to do/fix at filesonic, I really don't understand why you would be playing with this ??? Lol - the words 'nail' and 'coffin' come to mind (it is halloween after all ;) )

Actually, you're mistaken. Every host expires links. This is to prevent people from pre-generating links automatically and downloading them at once.

10 mins is definitely not a perfect balance. It's the lowest wait time of any file host out there. A free user can download with FileSonic 145 times per day. Combine that with the highest PPD payouts in the market, and it starts being unbalanced. Also, we want to increase conversation for our PPS affiliates to encourage people to switch to PPS (where the real money is for everybody).

Anyways, we still haven't come up with the right formula, but we will soon.
