Hi, I’m in a pickle here and was wondering if anyone had the remedy for my situation. I have a large file 2.08gb and I cant upload it to my blue host server. I have tried filezilla and unlimited ftp ia blue host and the damn timer on it says 37 hours to finish transfer. This is urgent that I get it to my server I the next few hours and I cant seem to get it done… any ideas tips ? Thanks much! Nethead
Do you have shell access? You may be able to use rsync. Other than that, ask your hosting helpdesk to rsync/wget the file across for you.
I do have shell but never used it before... is there any good tutorials or tips you may have that can help me ? I've emailed bluehost support for the last 48 hours and have got only one half/a** response. Not to mention they deleted my files in error while migrating my account and not they have just disappeared and are not much of help... driving me nuts... sucks ... one thing I learned from all this is never lay all or at least big portion of your eggs in one basket. Thanks Nethead
It depends upon the upload speed you are getting thus showing 37 Hours. It would not be possible to get it completed within few hours unless its on remote server so that you can fetch it via shell.
have that large file available in the public_html of your host. go to the new host, open ssh, cd to whatever folder you want this file in, then type: wget www.yourdomain.com/filename and it will start the transfer. the file is zipped or gzipped i hope?
Hi, maybe I should clarify my situation... I have that large file on my desktop (backup files) and want to upload it in my public html file on my bluehost server for them to restore the sites... thanks for all the answers. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too. if you can get to the old host and generate a backup that sits on the old server then you can use ssh. otherwise its ftp or breakup the download into smaller pieces. ftp or the file manager at your new host is the only way to get files from your desktop to the web.
Thanks for the quick reply... I guess I'm kinda screwed just wait for 24 more hours I guess since they deleted all my files while migrating my account and they didnt even make a backup before migrating to a high cpu account... thank god I had a backup on my desktop or else 140k of sites would have fanished... thanks much
