file extensions and SE results

I have the option of choosing a host where I can employ include files on .html pages, or another host that is otherwise preferable but requires .shtml extensions for pages using include files.

.html vs. .shtml -- is there any difference as far as Google or other SEs are concerned? any impact on rankings?

None. Go with one that is easy for you to use.
