Fighting back against Content Thieves from China

I've been pursuing some content thieves that stole entire bits of my content, but honestly a good deal of them are hosted in China - where it's just about impossible to track down the individuals web host in certain cases. In one case, one of the hosts actual website doesn't even work - they still host websites but their main site doesn't even work (the dns is screwy or something).

I had a few of these sites pulled, but honestly I've learnt a few things - if you want to scrape other people's sites - don't bother with offshore hosts in the Netherlands or Cayman Islands or Pakistan or wherever, go right for China - so long as you can pay the webhosts they don't really care what you host. The particular host that I'm trying to get a hold of (all of their contact information is wrong, but they're still taking orders for hosting somehow) accepts any and every site possible. While looking them up I found reports on how they have sites hosting everything from spam to botnets to all sorts of raunchy porn fetishes (beastiliaty and the likes  ).

Anyone have any experience in dealing with Chinese hosts in particular?

you know, the intellectual property right is still a big issue in China. However, I can see that people in China have been getting improve their thinking since the Internet blooms in the world these days. They are getting know the importance of personal reputation even they are anonymous on the Internet. I think that the best way is go to those thief websites and post your original source and let people know where he stole from.

Not to be discouraging. Dealing with those China hosts are near impossible. You can even send someone who is 100% well versed in Mandarin to talk to them. If you manage to reach them at all, there will be denial that it is their problem and you will be transferred from one dept to another throughout China, that is if the phone line is not cut.

Legally wise, I do not see any recourse either. Imagine the big boys' products are counterfeited and sold so openly on the market, what else can smaller companies do?

The highly publicized copyright pirates caught and punished are just for WTO or USA consumption, telling them that China is doing something. Other than that, China still has a long long way to go.......longer than the Great Wall of China....
