Couldn't believe this hasn't been posted here. I had to blog about this cause this really is a HUGE deal to people in the domaining business. I'm not sure a lot of people on this forum know Sedo.com, but there was a pretty big mTLD (.mobi) auction recently and someone bid $66K for Music.mobi and supposedly won it. Sedo then decided to extend the auction even after the FIRST winner already received an e-mail stating he won it + received an invoice... he bid all the way up to $611,000 since the auction was extended (auction #2) supposedly for some downtime...and then other bidders took it up all the way up to 616,000$. HUGE difference 66k vs 616k. Maybe they weren't satisfied with the "official" win of 66K? who knows, but something shady is going on for sure. READ ABOUT IT HERE: Sedo Lawsuit? Music.mobi Bidder Wants Revenge | New Owner... Uh, Just Read Make sure to check out the NP link on the blogpost. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post it here, but the link is on my blog.
Hi, I totally agree that SEDO is a good company meaning that I've used their services before in the past, but yes, I believe also that they either do internal bidding to get the price closer to your maximum or else they have people that come in and do it for them. Either way, SEDO does bad bidding practices on their auctions, it's clear to see. Yes I know this thread is old from 2007, but I really hate what SEDO is doing.
whoa....that is tough. I used to use that strategy on ebay about 10 years ago. If I really wanted something and wouldn't be around for the auction's close, I'd bid several more times higher than what the final bid was. Usually it goes up to a "sane" point, but it looks like it backfired on this guy!
