Fifty Cent

Woohoo! After one week I'm closing in on my first 50 cents! It looks like I'll be able to afford that phone call after all!

I've been live with adSense for about 10 days and can't seem to figure out what I might be doing wrong. I get about 30k uniques a month but my CTR is almost non-existent. They are still displaying PSA's on my site. Does anybody have any advice? I am using banner ads, would I be better off with text? And do they have a standard 468x60 text banner option?

Here is a sample of where the Google ads currently exist:

Thanks for any help or advice.

Use the text ads to increase your click thru ratio.. for starters. For other suggestions, I suggest that you take the time to read through the adsense threads and you'll get an idea of what others are doing.

Oh yeah... you shouldn't show your stats. It's against the Google TOS. You may reveal your revenue, but not the click thru stats and the other stats.

First thing you might want to do is put up some metatags with keywords and description...right now the adbot has only a very limited idea of what to serve. Which means you are getting Public Service ads which pay nothing...

Once you have tried that there are a few other things which might improve your click through rate....

But that is a very nice looking site....

Definitely text ads. Banners are dead. They may fit into the look of your site, but banners are, imho, useless.

Yeah I am only about 300 visitors a day and I make upwards of $6 sometimes, usually like $1 If you get some meta tags going on and try to integrate your ads a bit better, I think you could be banking with that type of traffic.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

OK, so I switch to text ads, palespyder, you mentioned "If you get some meta tags going on"

I currently only have them on my index page, is it a good idea to apply SEO to my remaining pages?

Its always a good idea to SEO the pages you have where AdSense runs. The AdSense bot uses the sames types of "hints" that the regular Google bot uses.

    Thanks again,..

Hmmm, I'm switching my ads and I am seeing "Link Units", the description is a little vague. Should I be using link units?

    ..and one more question,..
I have a spot for skyscraper ads but it is only 144 in width. The minimum ad that I could find is 150 in width. Is it ok to alter the code and set it to 144?

Sorry for all the q's. :(

No don't alter the code, it's against the TOS.

There's a 120x600 skyscraper which you must have missed.

    Thanks. :)

I'm not sure if I would be considered an mp3 site, hopefully more of a music promotion site. There sure are a lot of AdWords mp3 sites showing up on mine.

Well, I just jumped from .05 to $5.84 overnight thanks to the kind help on this board. Weekends are typically a little slower so I am anxious to see what Monday holds.

Thanks again everybody! I really appreciate it!
