Fibonacci

    Hey,

    Was looking at the CTR for one of my pages. The number for the past two months has been very close the the fibonaci number of 0.382. And I get a few thousand page views.

    Is there a reason for this? It's freaking me out. ONe month being a fib is one thing. But the next month being the same is just wierd. And I've even changed the page layout slightly. But nothing has changed.

    My page contains two 468*60 banner text only adsense units on it.

    what do you mean 'the finanacci number of 0.382'? do you mean the golden ratio? thats 1.608.. fibonacci is just a series, I dont know of any significant nr that starts with 0.38..
    but anyhow it is definitely just chance. Google are known for slipping in special numbers and such everywhere, but they wont joke around with someone's earnings.

    The ratios between the Fibonacci numbers are commonly called "Fib levels" or "Fib ratios" ( like .382, .5, .618 ) in the trading world. fcmisc is refering to the ratio of, say 34 to 89, which results in .382 - which is a fun number. A lot of traders love these numbers.

    And Google loves numbers like this also - perhaps there is something to it, but more than likely just a co-incendence - just like when traders use Fib levels :)

    Why not? Everybody else does. It's fun and entertaining. I do it all the time.

    What is the "Golden Proportion" of the Greeks?
    Divide a line segment into two lengths, so that the longer segment is the mean proportion between the smaller segment, and the whole line.

    which yields x-1 over x = x over 1.

    This, can be restated and solved as the general quadratic equation x2 +x -1 = 0

    You get (square root of 5, minus one) divided by 2 (disregard the imaginary result).

    Which is 0.6180339887... The "Golden Ratio" ... NOT 1.6.

    The quotient of any two adjacent Fabonacci numbers approaches this number as a limit, as the Fabonacci numbers become larger and larger.

    0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, etc., etc.
    (Any number in the series is the SUM of the previous two numbers.)
    For instance, 233 divided by 377 is 0.6180371 ...

    Note that if you square 0.6180339887, you get 0.3819660113.
    Add these two numbers together, and you get 1.
    This another way to state the problem (define the Golden ratio).
    "What number, when squared and added to itself, equals one?"

    Yep Surf Dude is right, the golden ratio is 0.61803, I got it mixed up with the golden section (1.61803, or Golden Ratio+1 )
