ffmpeg vs. mencoder // their conversion command // supported input format

    Hi I want to know about FFMPEG & MENCODER

    which one is best ?

    I used both to convert a 44mb mpg video file
    here's the result:
    FFMPEG -> 18.1mb flv file. video quality is good.
    MENCODER -> 14.4mb flv file. video quality is better & smoother than FFMPEG

    i used this for FFMPEG
    -b 512k -r 25 -ar 22050
    PHP:
    & this for mencoder
    -ofps 25 -of lavf -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=56 -srate 22050 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=flv:vbitrate=400:trell:v4mv:cbp:last_pred=3
    PHP:
    maybe i should use another command to get low file size better quality output

    now guys...plz give me the best command for both FFMPEG & MENCODER which will provide low file size (not more than 18mb for 5 minutes video) & best quality (yes video quality is necessary but i dont need HQ audio...medium quality audio is enough)

    & one more thing...can u plz give me list of file format which are supported as input by FFMPEG & MENCODER
    coz..i tried to convert a 3GP & a MP4 file with MENCODER & i wasn't succesful :(

    i've noticed another thing from my experience....
    FFMPEG can convert MP4 file while MENCODER cant..
    in case of 3GP, FFMEG cant convert...well, MENCODER can but the video will become too speedy (not sound) & will finished within seconds..

    I'm having a hard time converting this mp4 file... every time it outputs an empty file.

    Here's my command line :

    ffmpeg -i video1.mp4 -vcodec libx264 -pass 2 -r 29.97 -b 4000 -s 1280x720 -acodec libfaac -ab 192 -ar 48000 -ac 2 video2.mp4

    ffmpeg as worked before and i did not change the configuration of the server nor php since. The permissions allow for rwx (777)

    Please help :D

    I have a doubt refer to difference between both, i think that Mencoder call FFmpeg to process video, is it? in that case they can't be compared directly, otherside they can be...

    I can't do the option "-pass 2", it's to performance the encoding to get better quality without increasing file size.

    ffmpeg -i m2u00418.mpg -r 15 -b 800k -vcodec mpeg4 -pass 2 m2u00418.mp4
    Cannot read log file 'ffmpeg2pass-0.log' for pass-2 encoding: No such file or directory

    How can i do?
