My paid directories expereience fewer submission recently, how about you? Is it a fluctuation or assignable cause? Thanks!
Yes i had also heard same things from my friends, i think google penalzing paid dirs. might be the problem.
pffft i dont think so.... I have some with PR and great indexed pages while others now have authority or search links so i think your friends are wrong. Well every time google does something (remove text from guidelines) or PR goes to zero (like with any site) everyone stops and look like they are "deer caught in the headlights" and just freeze. Needless to say every time this happens it seems to make a dark gloomy cloud and submissions slow down. Another reason that we should all remember is that everyone's economy is spiraling out of control not just in the USA but also UK (barclays bank and others are having problems) which also doesnt help as both those countries are the biggest buyers online. We are ok but not as good as in 06-07 (a little less but hopeful it will pick up soon laterz malcolm
Yes, Google is harsh on paid directories, but I have read that if we put nofollow links on paid links then it can work out. Secondly,it is better to go for paid directories which are related to our theme have a good PR and nice traffic,in this case paid link can be beneficial
You're on the mark here John. Me and Bruce used to discuss this. I came with the idea that at the end of the month webmasters and SEO companies may be below budget so spend a little on paid directories? Just a thought.
I have been a consistent submitter to directories over the past few years. I have tried to keep a good balance of submitting to: 1) paid directories 2) free directories with PR 3) new, free directories with no PR More recently I have limited myself mostly to #2 (free directories with PR). My personal opinion —and it's only that: my personal opinion — is that there has been a sea change, a tidal shift, and directories have become a proportionately smaller part of the overall SEO picture. So I keep my hand in via submitting to free directories with established PR, but for the most part I focus more broadly on other elements of SEO.
October, November and December typically show a decline in business, end of year and marketing budgets are stretched. The economy is also playing a major factor as well as the Google + Directory issues.
Did you check your traffic statistics? I don't think that's the problem of google, since most people who submitted to your directory don't know that. Also whether google ban paid directory is still just a guess.
I think that this time is the economy issue that have make people thinking twice before they spend even a $.So we have to sit tight and wait the economy to stabilize.
There are just too many directories these days. That is why people are spreading their $$ amongst all dirs. If your dir is a quality one you will gain paid submissions all the time.
Not here PUXX is running in the 75-100 submissions/day. Having trouble keeping up with reviewing submissions.
As G and other main search engines are not considering the link from directory more important thats why. And there are lots of spam directories now, so submitting into a directory is not totally worthless but less important, its better if you start a blog and get related sites advertise there, would help a lot
I built a Network of Directories with my LLLL.COM domain name. My Directory's PR are still upgrading even from the last Google PR update. I'm selling regular and featured links everyweek. have a look at : directorygator(dot)com/network.php For me, the business still good.
Correct, most would have sorted their marketing at this time of year, with new players still on the look out. With the economy I do not buy the gloom n doom outlook as some have mentioned, this should be more an opportunity as things move forward as people look for lower cost but effective platforms to market their business / sites to stimulate growth. Those geared up and understanding this will benefit from this climate With the above 2 comments and related, is yes over some time now there have been and there are many new marketing opportunities opening up daily, giving the consumer many alternate ways to market their sites, new advertising opportunities within blogs is just one of those ways. This then allows people to spend their promotional $ in many other areas that are in more cases than not target and more effective than a traditional web directory. And as people say they have seen a steady decline then these are possibly some of the causing factors, but I also have to ask as these times have changed, who really has stepped out and made changes as well, or are people still doing the same ol same ol ? and then wondering why everything is moving past them. Those that can adapt and it may be in only small ways to embrace some different strategies and add to their current business plan to bring it more into line with other opportunities that are available, will no doubt start to move forward.
