Im going to finally get my first dedicated server, if i get it with cpanel, will that let me easily configure everything i need? Also it gives me a list of "Free operateing systems" Such as -Fedora -CentOS Enterprise Linux -Debian -Free BSD Or should i bite the bullet and get a windows server? im thinking of going with iweb8, are they good? if not who would you reccommend? thanks so much, Nick
cpanel should let you do just about everything you would need to do. The only reason to choose windows over a linux install would be if you are planning on hosting asp or asp.net type apps. If you are just going with LAMP type apps, then stay cheaper and go with Linux. Any of those flavors are good. I would perfer CentOS or Debian, but thats just me. Bruce
Ok, sorry i probably should of said what i intend to use the server for. Well, -Wordpress Multiuser -Forums [Vbulletin] -Normal websites so i require PHP, MYSQL and i think thats about it.
Go with Cpanel/WHM and CentOS or Debian just like bhopkins said. It should work just fine with all the software that you mentioned.
Thanks alot, i must say i have found this forum fantastic, very knoweldgable people who are extremely helpful. this is great
Centos the most recommended for OS, and works perfect with cpanel. AFAIK iweb8 dc located somewhere in europe right? if you have more visitors from the US I would go with the one in the states.
