Few questions about Facebooks ads, Bing ads and YSM

    Hi,
I've used to deal a lot with PPC a few years ago, and now I'm trying to get on board again, but I'm a little confused and have a few questions:

    1. I've used to have a Microsoft adcenter account, and a YSM account. I know that I had cancelled their campaigns, but I'm wondering what happened to theses accounts as there was a YSM/Bing merger? were they automatically shut down? (It would take me time to find my old usernames and passwords, so I haven't tried to find out on my own if the accounts still work)

    2. why are there a separate forums for YSM and for Bing ads? isn't it exacatly the same since the merger?

    3. why is there no Facebook ads forum? is it not considered PPC?
I've went on to facebook.com to find out how it works, clicked on "create an ad" in the bottom, and got to a page that for some reason lists the #1 step as creating a fan page, but I of course am interested in promoting my external website and not any facebook fan page, therefore i do not understand if this is mandatory or not (if not, why do they list it as the first step?!)

    Thanks!

I'v used Facebook Ads before as an experiment. Spent £200 on several campaings but the Conversion rate was very poor. But I knew in advance that the niche was not something that people would buy spontaneously via Facebook ads. It was purely an experiment and it was not great as expected.

    1) Not sure, my suggestions are to either go here https://secure.bingads.microsoft.com/ForgotPassword or just create a new account.

    2) Yes Bing Ads cover both now, you are right the forums ought to be merged.

    3) With Facebook Ads you can either pay by CPM or CPC.

I have just recently started to use Facebook Ads, and I've only tried CPC so far. I found this article very helpful while optimizing my ads: http://blogs.adobe.com/digitaleurope/2013/08/14/facebook-ads-top-5-creative-ways-to-achieve-higher-ctr/

You can advertise your own site, you don't need to have a Facebook page.

My understanding, from one of my business clients, is that recently Facebook changed slightly.

He told me that when he posted on his Facebook business page in the past, that his post was seen by all the people who liked his page. Since the change, he says that his posts are shown randomly to people who have liked him, and if he wants to increase the "reach" of his post, for it to be shown to 100% of his "likers" then he would have to pay Facebook to promote his post.

Facebook are sneaky snakes who are basically an intelligence gathering service for the security services and corporations. It's not surprising they keep coming up with new ways to rip off their users

ktp2012: Facebook is completely different from AdWords, you can't expect that what works on AdWords also works flawlessly on Facebook. Some products you will have a hard time selling on Facebook no doubt. It could also be that you have to rethink your ads/landing page or maybe you are not targeting the right audience on Facebook. There are many variables, always keep experimenting.
