It's common knowledge we had hostages taken by Iran during the gulf war. Toopac is correct, they blind folded our servicemen and placed mock executions.

That makes my blood boil.. want us to apologise for patrolling Iraqi water. I say they apologise for us having to see their sickeningly poor human rights standard.

British rules of engagement made this impossible. They are designed to not escalate a situation. I think a US officer said after it happened that US troops are told to fight back, that the rules of engagement are more open for self defense. I bet Iran knows this and picked an easy target.

So, when one of "yours" says something it's a 100% proof but when someone said something that "yours" don't like than I got answer like this:

Nope. It's reality. In this istance British soldiers are told to surrender peacefully so as not to make matters worse.

There'll be rules of engagement set out for the Brits, but common sense says that 16 UK personnel in 2 boats don't take on 16+X Iranian personnel in 6 boats.

CountryBoy was faster with his answer so I'll just quote him.

In war or war zone soldiers usually surrender because of just one simple thing: to stay alive.

I come back to this mess you guys have made of my thread
That's ok, maybe you guys just like being obtuse for fun. However, I have to say, It's hard to take the hand wringing over Iranian misbehavior too seriously because:

    Mock executions

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/afghanistan/story/0,1284,1417396,00.html

    Torture

    http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/12/02/guantanamo.detainees/index.html

    Killing Prisoners

    http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2005/11/14/051114fa_fact

were (are  ) all done by the good old USA. And, when this has been pointed out time and time again, the response is often some version of, "You support the terrorists."

Right, so that justifies Iran taking these sailors hostage? assuming the abuse is true just for the sake of argument & if the abuse is true what are you trying to saying? why don't you just say whats on your mind, theres no need to beat around the bushes (no pun intended) or to go around the houses is there?

You do support terrorists. And you should be proud you do. The worst kind of man argues persistently for a point, even though it's based on lies and the man has sold his credibility, honor and integrity, only to later deny he actually supports such.

Be a man, stand up for what you believe in. You have no problem letting the world know about it in a public forum. Take responsibility and ownership of your message.

If you don't want the "buzz" that comes with supporting terrorists, stop supporting them. Problem solved ;)

I think that boot is on the other foot.

BTW, here's how the US treats female prisoners:
