What could be happening? One of the websites has dropped in rankings out of the top 100 which was on the 1st page for months and continued to optimize for 5 keywords all same city. Now its gone, been gone for a week now. Other keywords he is still #1 for, any ideas whats going on!?
Sounds like the sandbox effect. Are you still ranked outside the top 100? Use one of those top 1000 SERP checker tools to confirm and track your progress back up to the top 100.
The site can be penalized, sandboxed, or has just finished experiencing the "freshness boost". It might be up to the original spot after a month or so if it's not the Google dance.
I thought sandbox means your not in it at all, like the site wouldnt show up for other keywords as well or am I wrong? The site is 6 months old.

It is not sandbox effect as your other keywords are ranking well. Check with other possibilities like design, sitemap, content or so....
