Any members here currently hosting Hostgator VPS?

Their cheapest with CPanel is about $50/month.

I read both VPS & Dedi, since VPS is still on a shared environment, if there's an abuser.. would it lagg and affect us all like on a Shared Host?

I'm currently using Shared and damn it suck ass.

Anyways... have you ever hosted VPS or Dedi? How's your experience so far?

    Peace,
    -Minh

Wel i am not using Hostgator, however Cpanel on VPS its bad idea, and yes if limit cross in VPS they will send warning mail or will ask you to upgrade to dedicated.

I used to host on a shared hosting environment until I outgrew it and moved up to a VPS. I am liking it much, much more than shared and I think I will eventually go to a dedicated solution.

Not true. The recent cpanel accelerated designed for vps works fine with a 256MB of RAM. It probably works with even lesser [site claims 92mb but i doubt that!]

I have not not had a VPS with hostgator but the general difference between shared, dedicated and VPS is this:
Guaranteed RAM : you will always get this much RAM irrespective of other users.
Burstable RAM : at times you may require a small periods of higher RAM usage so this sets the hard limit. If available you can use upto this limit.
Equal share CPU/ Guaranteed CPU : In equal share CPU you are promised CPU based on numbe of VPS per node. IN guaranteed you are supposed to be able to get so much CPU power [in hz] irrespective of other users.

The problems ive found with my VPS
1)Common network : most hosts offer a common network for all VPS on a node so if the traffic is very high the sites may be slow
2)RAM/CPU : even though you may be guaranteed resources hosts tend to oversell their resources. With respect to this XEN is preffered over OpenVZ.
3)CPanel tends to run better in XEN than OpenVZ

I think hostgator uses virtuozzo which as of date is one of the best.

Yep, if virtuozzo has easy function to create database like CPanel I'd jump into it and the cheapest option is $20 not a bad deal at all.. but too bad, I heard virtuozzo is not user friendly or for newbies like me... setting up database in VZ you gotta know a bit of coding and vice visa...
