I've been tossing around the idea of using AdSense Link ads since they are relatively unobtrusive. I'm testing it right now, where it inserts a text ad after whatever post you are currently reading. What do you guys think? Is it too much spam in your opinion, or? Note... The text link ads are not currently part of the revenue sharing system because it's a little tricker to make it work inline on a thread, so until I find out if people hate it or not (and remove them completely), I'm not going to waste the programming time to do the revenue sharing with them.
I don't think they look spammy, in fact I like them better than the Leaderboard that sometimes had a non-centered banner in it.
YEah looking good. However i read over them. But maybe that's just because i never read whole threads i just scann them for certain words. Could u let us know if it it works well I might want to use it myself. Thanks
Yeah, I expect a lot of people to read over them, but I'm guessing they aren't going to ignore them as much as the one up top since it's actually on their screen near what they are looking at.
It's pretty unobtrusive, from my point of view there not useful as like many here I never follow any Adsense ads. I don't think their spammy or in your face and wouldn't mind them being there, would you have Adlinks for members and the usual box for visitors?
I like those a lot better than the top banner ads since they look more as a part of this forum and less like advertising.
AdLinks across the board (members and visitors). I think they look way better than the one that was showing only to visitors.
Looks like I'll have to change back to the 'green'. I found the blue easier on my eyes. The ads are pretty subtle on the green setting. I dont think they look right with the blue Vb default skin though. Can the 'ads by google' be changed to green too?
No, you can't change the color of "Ads By Google". If I keep them, I'll see about making them blue if you are using the blue version of the forum. That's going to be a little tricky too (like the revshare thing), but I'm sure I can make it work.
Only been here a while, but first impression is that they are better and look less spammy than the leaderboard.
I think those ads are great and will get a much better click thru rate than the top banner ads which don't make sense half of the time.
In that case, I cant see how you could really make them any more integrated and unobtrusive. Ill stay green until you've made up your mind * I think the top ads are often pretty accurate, although that spot tends to suffer from 'visitor blindness'
Okay, well since I didn't hear any immediate hatred of it, I went ahead and spent the coding time to do the "trick" stuff with it. So now the Google text link ads are part of the revenue sharing mechanism, and they also are blue when you are using the non-default style.
Yep I think it's a great idea Shawn. I thought Darren had managed to get more links in his signature the first time I saw it lol.
by this I thought you meant the ad is going to appear under a new post which we havnt read but this isnt the case, the ads appear under the first post of every page. I dont see the point of ads in this forum really (I think the ones at the top are enough) but then again from your point of view I guess every little helps edit: after posting this just realised that they do appear under new posts
It depends on how you read threads. If you are viewing starting at a specific post (for example when you view last post or view new posts within a thread), it will display after the post you are reading. If you just view the whole thread (no specific post) it would be after the first one.
Yup, looks good.. a little non-noticeable, you might want to try like an image next to it or something (hehe ) to draw the eye a little bit. Its just so short. Josh
I use the blue view so now that you coded it I have no issues with them. Very well integrated and I think fit right in.
Well if you had not said they where there then I would have not noticed them Would be very interested if they work as forums are pants for ads Its hard as a forum is about info and people helping each other thus ads seem to get over looked as the info is interesting to the visitor
