    Hey..
    One tip is to work on 1280x800, or, I really love working in that scale. ;p
    Because then you know what background you will use outside the template as well.
    Uhm, the gradient below the header doesnt look to good, it might be too big and the header could be bigger. Since you can't really see what's at the header.. Also, the logo there.. I don't know if you did it or not but I'm going with that you did it. It's not quite readable.. The shadow is to dark on the text.
    The sidebar looks clean and good, maybe drop the shadow's opacity to about 45% or something.

    that is pretty damn good for starting photoshop design recently, I really like it. However the gradient's are a bit to much, it kind of draws attention to it, try not to make them so desaturated when you do it, or apply less gradient.

    Just my two cents but very good use of font, etc.
