Fedora Core 3

I've been trying for some time to download and burn Fedora Core 3. After having to throw away a number of CD's that failed on me when I was testing the media, I finally have good copies of disks 2, 3, and 4. But disk 1 seems to be eluding me. I have tried a number of different mirrors and the checksums for the downloads are always correct, but when I burn the CD and test the media, it fails.

    Anyone else had this problem?

[Note: I finally had a successful burn and test. Persistence pays, I guess..]

For future reference, it sounds like either A) you're burning at the wrong speed, or B) you need a new burner

I would agree with you except that I found it very odd that *only* disk 1 was giving me difficulties..

Whatever the problem was, I'll probably never know. And just between the 2 of us, I really don't care :)

Thanks for posting the tip. I'm sure it will come in handy for someone.

I've run into similar problems in the past. One way I was able to solve it was to just slow down the burner for the problem file. Try burning that file at a slower speed and see what happens.

Excellent solution. I remember back when I was ripping core 2, I had to slow things down to 2X to get a good burn. I did the same thing for FC3, but ended up getting bad burns on like 5 or 6 different CD's. It was frustrating! But I was finally able to overcome..

A little off topic, have you noticed that Evolution 2.02 with the new core, downloads multiple copies from the POP server? Every time I turn around, I'get got tons of previously marked and downloaded spam in my inbox.. Oi vey! I hate loining coives!

I sure do not understand why these Linux vendors just don't have us get the CD by mail because I am downloading the Mepis 3.3 iso right now on dial up and it is going to take 95 hours.

    What a bunch of crap.

I can get it from them as I paid for the subscription, but there has to be a better way for these Linux vendors to get these programs out to users.

This is backward to have to do a 95 hour download, especially with no download manager on this new box I have.

Hang in there Anthony. I don't know how long I could be stuck on a Windoze machine before I blew my own brains out.

2 places that are no good for windows:
    1) a submarine
    2) a computer
