We are an ISP like many of you and located in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas. I have an issue that came up with one of our carriers with respect to Federal Excise Tax, Universal Service Fund fees, and end user port charges. With respect to the inbound PRI lines that we use for our customers to connect to us, are these subject to these taxes? I know we do not pay sales & use tax on them, which is state, but I not sure about these other taxes. Thanks.
sds the Federal Excise Tax and Universal Service Fund are federally mandated charges that Telephone carriers are forced by the FCC to charge, as an ISP, your customers should not have to pay them, but YOU will. I used to work for the phone company
ok ok...i work for the phone company, i get bitched at about 20 times a day for these charges. most of those fees are going towards providing internet service for schools and public libraries.
