    I'm also in the UK.

    With the current state of the exchange rate I opened a USD account. Then I can either draw on the money when $ go up or indeed save it up and hit the states for a holiday.

    $ is worth more to me as $ not as GBP

    You could also try holding over cheques for two or three months and only incur one transaction charge.

    I know the Bank of Scotland do this for their business accounts.
