Fear of being banned?

I really enjoy coming here and over the past view months have read some really interesting posts. The thing I do not understand is this "Fear" everyone has of being banned ALL the time.

"Where your traffic is coming from might get you banned" always gets posted here. Geez, come on guys! So it is ok to spend your hard earned money on Adwords, yet if you pay ceretian other advertisers for traffic it might get you banned?

So I am suppose to assume Adwords traffic is more worthy than other traffic? Please, my Adwords runs in a foreign countries and I bet you 30% of my budget goes to fraud. Sure, I can prove it sometimes with logs and get a few bucks back, but I could spend 40 hours a week tracking this stuff. It's just something you have to accept as part of doing business.

I get my traffic mostly from search engines, but I am sure a lot of people pay for most of their traffic. I say do what you have to do (without purposely violating the TOS) and let the chips fall. There are so many grey areas and people always have different opinions about it. :D

At issue with the traffic situation is what type of traffic generator it is. If it is anything where the person viewing your pages does so because he is being compensated to, then yes, there is a very distinct possibility that you will be banned.

For the most part, if it's natural traffic, nothing to worry about. There does seem to be a great fear of banishment that runs through the air here, but I think a great portion of it is unjustified and fed by a few reports from people who probably were doing things a little "below-board"

No problem, everyone gets "big-finger, little-keys" syndrome every now and then :)

ok, well that makes sense. If you are paying visitors to come to your site it makes sense you are breaking the TOS. But if you are paying a company to run an ads which brings in traffic, that just seems like doing business to me.

Good points. In the grand scheme of things, there's not really much you can do about it. If you don't violate the TOS, you won't have any issues.

It's all hype, Google is not that harsh (not saying they're innocent either), but you know when people post these stories, they're not saying the whole truth or twisting the story a bit ;)

99% of people that write here about being banned dont tell the whole truth. Just dont do anything against TOS and you will be fine.

This fear of being banned in this forum are very unrealistic. If you simply do not break the TOS you won't be banned, and Google doesn't even ban people for a 1st mistake. Most of the fear-threads in here are junk posts that clog up this forum while pushing down the actually useful posts. It is so annoying when you see 5 threads on the front page asking the same dumb questons.
