    Well, one reason related to internet marketing would be the concept of e-whoring or tricking guys to fill CPA leads for you by flirting with them disguised as a hot girl. Was all the rage a few years ago.

    Yeah I do get a lot of friend requests from girls with hot DP's but I ignore them since i know they are fake accounts , just trying to build their friends to *promote* their stuff...

    Hasn't that kind of thing gone on since the web was created. If its not ewhoring its creating an alias.

    there are sites where you can analyse text people have written to see if the writer is male or female. Can be good for outing the fakers.

    Well I made out a false profile to see what would happen....I am a male my alter ego was of course a female. I placed this profile on a dating site. My details were thus. Name=Wanker. Address=UK. Photo=None.
    Amazingly I still get men asking me for more details... Lol
    W"hy did I do this? It was only done for fun to see what would happen and sad to say there be plenty of sad men out there who want to connect to a girl called "wanker" no photo and lives in the uk
    :)

    People just try to disguise them of their personal identity and make popular among other by including them in social circle. It happens on other platforms as well.
