fax blast (1) legalities (2) software/services

Does anyone know about fax blasts these days? I realize most companies don't do them and that it's now illegal unless you have an "existing business relationship" with the recipient (see http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/unwantedfaxes.html), but my company is pushing to do small quantities of these regardless (maybe 50-100 at a time). So I have a few questions:

    (1) Am I being a stick in the mud if I refuse to do them (ex. if I tell Sales to do the blast on their own), since I don't want to be involved in a law suit?
    (2) I have heard people in politics send fax blasts to thousands of records at at time. Do you know how they could do this without being sued?
    (3) Can anyone recommend a good/low-cost service for fax blasts?

    Thanks very much!!

Why dont you just use the fax software built into windows XP? If you own a computer with XP you already have the software so its free.

If you have a dial up modem on your computer and a phone line, you are ready to go. Some modems still require an analog phone line. If your office building has a digital line, you might need to get an analog line installed.

Everything you need should already be installed on your computer, just go into control panel and click "printers and faxes". Try the easy and free stuff first, then move up to the expensive options. I have heard of doctors offices running all their faxes services off a computer running windows.

As for the legal stuff, provide a number where they can call and be removed from your list.

Don't do them. I worked for a major radio station and we were doing a fax blast to our current clients. One of our salespeople faxed to the wrong number and we were sued.

$10,000 later we settled out of court.

    It's not worth it.
