Hi all, I’m looking to improve my web design workflow and would love to hear from others what HTML or CSS tips, tricks, or shortcuts have you found most helpful? It could be anything from responsive layout techniques, small HTML hacks, or CSS strategies that save time and make your designs cleaner. Sharing these could help both beginners and experienced designers optimize their work. Looking forward to your insights!
What was a game changer for me, in terms of responsiveness, was the use of clamp. It totally removes the annoying screen jumps when shrinking. Everything became smooth with this, typography, in particular.
Just a general workflow booster: Use a mobile-first approach. Most users (often 60%+) will access your site on mobile. I'd avoid cramming every desktop feature into the mobile version. If you start with mobile-first you'll need fewer media queries overall, since you're building up (progressive enhancement) rather than constantly simplifying down.
One tip that has improved my workflow is creating and testing color combinations before writing CSS. It helps keep the design system consistent and reduces unnecessary style changes later. Instead of manually guessing colors, I usually combine and preview multiple colors first, then copy the final HEX or RGB values into my stylesheet. It saves time, especially when working on UI components, branding, or dark/light themes. Recently I've been using this free Color Combiner tool for that: https://freecolortool.com/online-color-mixer.html It's useful if you want to blend multiple colors quickly before implementing them in HTML/CSS. Clean color planning makes writing clean CSS much easier too.
That is very solid advice! What is more do you build a website like this with WordPress or with code?
