Favicon not appearing

I'm having the same problem with all the sites I'm designing. Can someone have a look at http://www.dollarsurbanwear.co.uk/ and check if the favicon is appearing?

I've tried Firefox and it appears with that but with Internet Explorer 7 it doesn't.

Does anyone know a fix for this issue?

Favicons don't appear by default in IE. You need to bookmark the site in IE for the favicon to appear.

I've tried bookmarking it and it still does not appear.

Does it depend on the PageRank? Currently the site is too new to have a PageRank.

No, absolutely nothing at all in the slightest bit has it got anything whatsoever to do with Pagerank, that's a completely different side of the web world.

As default, favicon's appear to the left of the url in the browser bar using Firefox. As default in IE, it does not, it does, however, appear on the Favourites list after you add a site to your favourites. It will not make it appear in the browser bar, however.

This is an issue that we all have to live with..minimalistic, of course;)

Take a look at msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537656(VS.85).aspx (How to Add a Shortcut Icon to a Web Page). :)

    Psst... add http:// before the msdn2. there - I haven't yet reached 10 posts you know. ;)

I've tried that. How come the big sites have them?

I believe Microsoft are choosing which sites can have them and which can't.

I can confirm that the BBC does have a favicon in place in both IE and Firefox. From looking at their source code, this is all they have for it:

    <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

    Code (markup):
Try utilise that, if it still doesn't work - I think it's time to forget and move on...it's not drastically important that you'll lose sleep over it...right?

The first thing to do is make sure you've saved your image properly using the ICO format. Then put it in the root directory of your Web site (where your home page goes, usually /public_html/ or /web/ or /www/ on most servers).

IE 6 and below don't handle favicons very well, though IE 7 does. If you need to support IE 6 and earlier with your favicon, use the code that Spider-Man provided.

Other than these, I don't know what else to say: use the real Windows ICO format, set the size to 16x16 px, then place it into the root/top-level directory/folder on your Website.

IE7, i am clearly seeing it. The thing is that your ISP caches stuff and you might not be able to view it straight away.

Well I'm glad it's working for you now.

A common mistake is someone just resizing a small image and renaming it .ICO. The file actually has to be an ICO file and it can be done in photoshop with the proper plugin which I'm pretty sure you have to download, it doesn't come with photoshop.

Well it is appearing on and off now so I think it is an ISP caching issue.
