    A question for you who do not reside in the United States: Do you celebrate Father's Day today or any other day of the year or is this an American custom only?

    It will be interesting to watch and see if we get the usual round on questions regarding number of web visitors today and click through rate today as we do on certain holidays not celebrated world wide.

    Oh by the way to all you males out there, "Happy Father's Day." - I know i know not all of you are father's but at times you all act in a fatherly way.

    Smyrl,

    Got me thinking, so I looked it up: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Father's-Day. It is likely more than anyone ever wanted to know about father's day holidays:

    "Almost all over the world, a Father's Day exists to honor and commemorate fathers or forefathers. In Christian/Catholic tradition, Father's Day is celebrated on St. Joseph's Day. Other cultures have different days to celebrate their fathers, and even in many traditionally Christian/Catholic countries a more 'secular/non-religious' Father's day is also held. The term Christian means belonging to Christ and is derived from the Greek noun Χριστός Khristós which means anointed one, which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח, also written Messiah), (and in Arabic it is pronounced Maseeh مسيح). ... Saint Josephs Day is marked in some branches of Christianity in honor of Saint Joseph, spouse of Mary and foster-father of Jesus. ...

    Austria: second Sunday in June
    Australia and New Zealand: the first Sunday in September
    Argentina, Canada, Chile, France, Japan, Malta, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States: the third Sunday in June (June 19 in 2005).
    Belgium: St Joseph's day (which is March 19), and the second Sunday in June ("Secular")
    Brazil: the second Sunday in August
    Bulgaria: June 20
    Denmark: June 5, same day as Constitution Day
    Germany: on Ascension Day (originally intended by socialists to replace the Christian holiday, but now the two are generally combined)
    Korea, Republic of: May 8, Parents' Day.
    Lithuania: the first Sunday in June
    Republic of China (Taiwan): August 8
    The word for the date, ba ba, (8/8) is a homophone of the word for father in Mandarin Chinese, "爸爸" bàba.
    Scandinavia (Including Finland): the second Sunday in November
    Portugal, Spain, Italy: March 19
    Thailand: December 5, birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej"

    We 'celebrate' it in Holland too but don't have a clue when. We only made an effort of it when we were young as kids but we don't bother with father/mother's day now we're all grown up.

    That's kind of sad. No wonder Holland parents buy their kids wooden shoes. ;)

    Yeah and they make us smoke weed and go to the red light district on our 18th. We also live on cheese only, everybody owns a wind mill and we all have tulips in our gardens. :)

    And don't forget no Dutch history is complete without a mention of the boy who stuck his finger in the dike.

    Well, now that Fathers Day is over I can post this.

    I managed to obtain number 1 on MSN for;

    Fathers Day
    Fathers Day Gifts
    Fathers Day Presents

    Number 1 on Google for;

    19th June

    and the traffic went from an average of 60/day to 170/day.

    Now Fathers Day is over the stats have gone down a little but this position on MSN certainly helped our sales over this special occasion.

    Nah I do that to keep me sane. Overworking tends to be quite stressful and you need some release. I cant go and spend my well earned money because it's all getting pumped into wedding funds, honeymoon funds, new house funds and flight and ferry funds. Life is expensive! :p

    You'll know the meaning of expensive when instead of checking Serps on Fathers Day you get a card.
