Fasthosts - My Experience - Terrible

Recently it came time for me to renew my hosting for several of my websites. For the past 2 years I experimented with several different web hosts and found that the most expensive (fasthosts) performed the worst.

    Fasthosts.co.uk = £205/$313 annually
    Host Gator = £39/$60 annually
    Host Department = £49/$75 annually

Having just come back from holiday I checked my emails and found that Fasthosts had contacted me to pay my account. That's OK, I wanted to change my payment method though. It seems like a fair request to change annual payments into monthly payments, we are in a worldwide recession after all. I phoned the helpline and was told that I could not change anything and that I had to pay the bill. They had no flexibility at all. I offered to pay the annual fee in 2 installments or lose a customer, they told me 'Nothing we can do about that here, Sir'. So they would prefer to lose a customer? The customer service was appalling.

So now I have the inconvenience of having to point my domain to a DNS on one of my other more friendly hosts at Host Gator or Host Department...or wait probably the majority of other hosts on the web? This simply because they would prefer to lose customers rather than change payment plans (LAZY?)

This was not the only problem with FastHosts though, as 3 months before renewal they changed my PHP/MYSQL setup without notifying myself. This resulted in My MYSQL db being unavailable online and required me to alter something on my cpanel before it would work again. This was their fault but resulted in me having to fix it? I felt they were lazy and unhelpful whenever I contacted them. I also lost many page impressions and more importantly revenue!

Rant over, it makes me feel better and also helps you guys out. Avoid Fasthosts.co.uk at all costs, especially when they charge more!

Here are other peoples views on them which back up my terrible experience

I am sorry to hear that. I am not sure why would they not change your billing term. Changing yearly payment to monthly seems a pretty genuine demand. (And most hosts would be able to do that)
Unless they dont offer any monthly payment for that particular package plan. (Which I doubt seeing your yearly cost)

Come on now ... We all not how such "Top hosts" sites work ..
And its really not a good idea to stuff your link like that.

    Fasthosts.co.uk

Total nightmare. Found them with a search in Google. Purchased hostings, recommended to friends.

Last year, mailed to cancel account as I found a better deal. Request refused as I was on a minimum term contract. Why operate on a minimum contract basis if you are sure about your offering? Barrier to exit?

Waited till this year 2010 and its been a bloody struggle. For 3 months they have brought up the crudest of reasons for not cancelling the account from

    1. Putting your pin number in the opening lines of the mail to
    2. Claiming to send mails asking for the 3rd and 10th letter of your password to
    3. Just plain robbery...passing debits into my account monthly for no service

I moved my website to another hosting company. The friend I recommended has thesame problem and has been calling me to help!

Guys, avoid them like the EBOLA VIRUS if you love your sanity

I am on the way to my bank tomorrow to cancel my card and do whatever to stop these marauders from drip stealing my money

I was going to get a dedicated server with them sometime ago as well.

    Thanks for the warning.
