No one could claim they know about the Google's detailed algorithm, and if we observe all these years, their game rules can change from time to time. I think it was about 10 years ago, I have had websites ranked in Top 10 in Yahoo and Google, but today it may not seem so, especially Google algorithm gets updated and smarter and smarter as years go by.
There are cases (based on my personal experience and research and comparing my notes with other fellow web programmers and marketers), a new domain name with the targeted keywords can rank on 1st page during initial purchase and having it indexed by Google. But it didn't last long there. Having keywords in the domain name helps. It is easier to rank among the Top 10 if you are targeting longer string of keywords.
Further to that, there are also other cases, of getting a businesses listed in Google Maps, would get the website in that top 10 list too. This strategy has been used and promoted so much by internet marketers at one time, but now we can't really tell. It helps. You may try it.
Thirdly, publicizing a domain name at largest classifieds and directory could help your business being noticed too.. indirectly. These largest classifieds directory (provided their directory pages comes with SEO pages and ofcourse highlighting your keywords and pointing to your website via do-follow anchor text would benefit your website ranking too).
