Okay, so satellite internet isn't really an option at the moment. I'm currently stuck with a dialup earthlink connection. Anyway, would someone under my circumstances be able to use a broadband modem such as the AT&T USBConnect Mercury Broadband USB Modem or a similar device? How much would it all cost??? Would this significantly increase my internet speed? Would it increase download speeds? How about online gaming? That last one isn't a requirement but it'd be nice. I'd expect latency though... Also... would I be able to connect online with my PSP using this thing?
You can not exceed the speed limit that provides by the ISP. it's the maximum speed. no matter how powerful equipments you have. almost all broadband ISP give the speed of 3.6Mbps at least. a normal modem can work with this speed without having any problems. if the speed exceed 7.2Mbps, you will need a more powerful modem.
Ya I am agree with the koala coz your max limit will never be crossed the speed limit provided by your internet service provider. And I think when you opt any internet plan, the speed is always mentioned with that plan. You always get the device as per your plan, device means the modem you get, that is similar to your plan speed and if you get the higher speed plan, then you would be in need another better modem set for that speed and configuration. In my opinion you can never get the upper speed limit with your on-board motherboard modem.
What ever you do do not go for wireless connection because is slow and not stable. Broadband is the best option for internet.
The data rate of dual line modems is faster than 90 k bit/s.Its use in the United States peaked in the late 1990s prior to the availability. Expensive ways of gaining broadband Internet access, but in rural areas it may be the only. These can give broadband access to the Internet, with a cell phone.
